Failing Like an Expert

Not funny

Although I mentioned in my last post that I would not write before October, I have to break the silence.

This post has nothing to do with the new course I am starting later this year, but with the one I finished earlier this year. When I think about it, this post should probably be published in my old blog. However, I am taking the opportunity to put my rant here, and it is going to be a rant indeed.

Shortly before dropping out of the MA in Translation at Portsmouth, I was quite disillusioned with that institution. I seemed to be given contradicting information several times, and in the end I didn't even know if I would be given a postgraduate certificate or not. I didn't bother too much when the university I was transferring credits to was quite happy with me providing the automatically created transcript.

Apparently recently the examiner's board awarded me a PGCert in Translation, which I was then told I could receive as printout through their website. I was aware that this would incur further costs, but little did I know how much that would be. I reckoned that I would maybe pay additional £100 to £150, which I consider acceptable.

But ordering a certificate, a transcript and a verifying letter seem to come at a cost at Portsmouth. And that is £7,000!!!! Can you imagine that???

Wtf?!? A printout, even if it comes with a seal or whatever is not worth that much money, especially since I've already paid tuition in advance.

Seven-fucking-thousand. Can you believe that?

Yeah, anyway, rant is over. I am so done with this institution, I will not bother to find out if this is a mistake or not. So happy I don't need their certificate.

Short update from May 19: Surprisingly, I was sent a PGcert and a transcript by mail, without that I had to order something or pay additional fees. I need to put my rant straight, which apparently was written without me knowing I was about to receive that certificate. But this also highlights how bad information distribution is at this institution.
