Failing Like an Expert

Next TMA

It is January. Yes, I could have written again in December, but while I was trying to get to terms with the result of my last TMA and the holidays approaching, I simply did not want to write anything.

Although my mood was very low and I did consider dropping the course altogether, I have not. Actually, today I submitted TMA02 and, to be honest, do not expect any marks above 65. The reason is simple: While it has been an interesting time and I gained some experience in subtitling, I realized during the assignment work that I simply lack the experience of a professional subtitler. There is so much to consider that my work cannot be good enough. In the end, I had to reduce some text very much to fit it into the subtitling template we were given. A lot is keeping to character count and that makes meaningful translation difficult.

The next block will be about business and law, and I already know that is not my cup of tea. Dark times are ahead of me 👻🦇☠️

On another note, I had to drop the DipTrans exam. The story is long, and actually quite sad, so I won't share it. If I'll find the time to sit the exam in July, I don't know. 🤷
